Around 70% of people in Germany suffer from regular headaches. According to media reports, more and more children and young people are also affected. For many people, reaching for a painkiller has become routine. However, taking painkillers regularly is associated with risks due to the side effects. Read here about the proven treatment concepts offered by osteopathy and traditional medicine for chronic headaches. In this blog series, I present the most common types of headache in my practice. You can also find out what surprising advice the World Health Organization (WHO) gives headache patients.
Headaches are often perceived as unpleasant and exhausting. In severe cases, they can be life-threatening. Those affected can suffer from dizziness, nausea, vomiting and palpitations. Headaches affect everyday life at work and at home. There are many different causes of headaches. Headaches can be caused by an illness, an injury, a misalignment of the body, a blood flow disorder, a cold, flu or a viral infection. Headaches can also be caused by stress, lack of sleep, nervousness, depression or anxiety.
The first part of our blog series deals with the most common type of headache, tension headaches. Find out what the possible causes are and how tension headaches can be treated.
Diagnostics
According to experts, there are over 300 different types of headache. A very careful diagnosis is required to identify potentially dangerous causes of headaches. In some cases, an examination by an ENT specialist or a neurologist is recommended.
During the first appointment in my practice, I will record all symptoms in detail. A clinical examination completes the medical history. An osteopathic examination and a diagnosis according to traditional Chinese medicine are also important for an optimal treatment concept.
In special individual cases, a referral is made to an ENT, neurology or internal medicine practice for further clarification.
Treatment options
Tension headaches, migraines or chronic sinusitis are conditions that I often treat in my practice. My patients opt for naturopathy because they want to take less medication. Regular use of painkillers in particular often has serious long-term side effects.
In my practice, I have had good experience in treating tension headaches, migraines and sinusitis. I work with both osteopathic techniques and acupuncture.
In 2002, the World Health Organization (WHO) published a list of indications for acupuncture. Treatment with acupuncture was classified as effective for various clinical pictures. These include several types of headache such as migraine or sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses).
There is therefore a wealth of experience for most types of headache, especially for chronic complaints. I would be happy to advise you on the possibilities of treating headaches with osteopathy or acupuncture.
